How to remove braces?

Friday, June 6, 2025

The orthodontist checks if your teeth are in their final positions and if treatment is complete.

  1. Bracket and Wire Removal
    • A special tool is used to gently squeeze and break the adhesive that holds the brackets to your teeth.
    • Wires and brackets are removed carefully, you will just feel pressure.
  2. Adhesive Cleanup
    • The remaining glue is polished off using a tool called a handpiece.
    • This may create a slight grinding sensation but does not usually hurt.
  3. Final Check
    • Your teeth are examined for any remaining glue.
    • A scan is taken and sent to the dental lab to prepare retainers.
  4. Retainers Are Provided
    • You will receive a retainer to wear as instructed to keep your teeth from shifting.

❌ Never Try to Remove Braces Yourself!

  • Risks include:
    • Cracked or chipped teeth
    • Enamel damage
    • Gum injury
    • Teeth shifting back

⏱️ How Long Does It Take?

  • About 30–60 minutes, depending on how many brackets you have.

If you're thinking about getting your braces removed, schedule an appointment with your orthodontist.
