What Is a Rapid Maxillary Expander?
A rapid maxillary expander (RME) sometimes called a palatal expander, is a small orthodontic appliance that helps widen the upper jaw.
It’s often recommended when the upper jaw is slightly narrow or when there isn’t enough space for all the teeth to fit comfortably.
By applying light pressure over time, the expander gently encourages the two halves of the upper jaw to move apart.
